Hey, eventually, I'm going to fit an imobiliser/alarm to my car, as something is better than nothing. Since most systems now have circuits for a keyless entry system, and I already have a couple of lock actuators around, was wondering if anyone has fitted them to the sliding window door before? If it can't be done, will the locking system off a wind up door fit straight in, allowing for the same? I've seen it done before, but only on the windups. Also, can anyone recommend a good security system? |

I've made up fake door handles similar to most new cars to hide my central locking kit. it's a whore to install, but it should work fine ;D |

The locking/handle mechanism is not interchangeable between sliding and wind up window doors. Whats more, sliding window doors will never be totally secure, i'm afraid. Your best security option is microwave sensors, set to detect movement within 1 metre of the vehicle. OR, if you wanted, you could remove the WHOLE outer handle assembly, and just have an internal solenoid operated door release. Press the remote button and the door pops open...  Probably illegal though.

What makes sliding window doors unsecure? Is it the window itself, or the way the locks work? I've thought about getting some wind up doors and retro fitting sliding glass into them, would that make the car harder to get into? (key word harder, I'm not saying it won't happen) |

Probably illegal though.Yes, very illegal. You must have a physical exterior method of opening the doors.....if only for the sake of emergency services being able to release you from your car if it's on fire and you're out cold! 50s American Lincolns used a pushbutton door popper. Very attractive too. Harley: although I'm not doing an early mini door I am in the process of putting central locking and alarm/immobiliser into my Clubman....was planning on doing a tech for this section when it's done. I asked here about Solex locks but didn't get much response...and the central locking was CHEAPER than replacement locks (which I'd had rebuilt but still sucked). Next step for me is mounting the central locking actuators under the quarter vents for the locks. I will blank over the key hole with some Mustang bumper bolts (they have a roudned stainless bolt cap). |

loosely related to what people are talking about in here, aside from going central locking, has anyone replaced their mini locks with a more modern version? one that requires magnetic tipped keys or other more modern features? what are the modern Rover ones like? |

PEDDRO - what happens if your battery goes dead or something fails? wouldn't it be a bit safer to have key locks and central locking? |

Battery is in the boot.....still got the normal lock there, so no problems. |

Merlin has constact sensors on the doors, boot and bonnet, and an immobliser. All the secrurity I think i need. If they can get past that then there gonna get past anything else~ |

I want to run 12 volts AC through the handle. Give anyone ith any thoughts a bit of a warning shock. Then, I'll put the 120 DB siren in the car under the dash.

Would flatten your battery if left for a while though. What'd be cool is having one of those sensor alarms that detects if someone moves within a meter of the vehicle. Instead of it chirping or whatever have it energise a relay that completes the circuit of the coil to the door handle. Then it's only on & draining your battery when it's needed.

Pretty sure this is illegal, as would hooking an electric fence kit up to it (but yeah I'd love to do this, they don't use much power). Some poor sod with a heart condition could touch it..  or dogs could pee on it..

how bout gettin one of them kits they have in the Subarus put in.. where u have to punch a code to start the car.... thats if u have a spare $5000 |
