 Post subject: dizzy movement

hello my name is jamie i am fairly new to working on my new mini, my question is ,my mini when you grab the dizzy it moves about 15mm each way and about 10mm in and out is this a common fault ?? is there a qick fix?? your advice would be much appreciated

Are you talking about the whole distributor, or if you try and move the rotor button inside?

The clamp will tighten around the Distributor and bolt to the block.

In some cases due to previous overtightening, the dizzy's alloy shoulder inside the clamp breaks. Then the clamp doesn't work.
This applies to early dizzys that are hollow inside there, later ones (45D etc) are solid.
There are a few ways to fix this, there was a thread here recently.
I fixed a Cooper S one recently by machining the shoulder down and shrinking an alloy ring onto it.

Reading the above.... The solution would be to buy a new Dizzy from me and might be an idea to go the modern way.... electronic.....
