A breather pipe?

If it's made of steel, leave it on, more chrome the better. 8)

I would like to know how much this costs against an alloy rocker cover.

I paid 50 bucks for my alloy rocker cover from Brickworx.

Lots of people have chromed them over the years so it is possible. The one I had was only chromed on the outside, so the breather pipe wasn't affected. Talk to your local chrome shop about it.

If you chrome aluminium it will flake off. And if the alloy is mostly aluminium it probably won't stick too well. Usually you anodise Aluminium alloys instead of chroming for good looks.

I have actaully seen a chromed aluminium alloy rocker cover (your normal aftermarket alloy cover) and the chrome was flaking off, it lasted 2 months. The chromer should have told the person, as they would know.

Yeah crooks.

I bet the guy who got his rocker cover chromed payed for it, and it only lasted 2 months. It was for sale at brickworx for 50 bucks when I bought mine, for the same amount of money but mine was painted.

That was when Brickworx had a big eBay clean out. Cheers, Steve I got some good stuff cheap at that time!

I wouldnt bother chroming alloy. You can polish it up as good as chrome. I got the engine covers on my SS done and it only cost 40bux

Different alloys come up to a different lustre. Take stainless steel for example, the higher the quality the better it polishes. The higher the quality the greater the quantity of chromium.

The aftermarket alloy rocker covers are designed to polish up nicely and easily. As opposed to the standard alloy rocker cover in the Mercedes at home. I tried to polish that, it was taking too long so I gave up. LOL, not designed to be polished. But would come up beautiful if I could be bothered.

The standard steel ones chrome real nice. BUT- don't bother doing it to the early 850 etc ones without the 2 gasket keep strips inside, the gaskets then slide about too much.

I got my standard one done - real easy with no problems, still looks great. Only the outside was chromed. The inside still looked the same after I got it back (I degreased it before I took it in). Couldn't tell you how much it cost because I took it in with a heap of other stuff.

I got a stock rocker cover. Is it steel? I can polish it up if thats possible. I just want it to look better than it is now, Bare metal, with scratches everywhere, Also i want to chrome/polish my alternator. Would it be better to just buy a new more powerful one for around 150 dollars?

New altinator: depends if your going to run a million amps etc and some killer stereo system, if so then I would look at upgrading it, if not I would keep your current altinator (assuming that it is in good condition to start with).

It's steel if the standard one- if you polish it, it'll rust :x . Either paint it, or chrome it...
