hey, im getting my 1275 in a fue weeks and i plan to pull it down and rebuilt it,and do some performance mod's to it,my first move will be to bore her out, people say dont goto 1380 which i wanted,so i have scraped that,so should i bore to 1310 or 1361,im down with 1361 coz more cubes, more POWER which is what im arfter, the motor once finish will be a rebuilt 1361,with twin 1.5"s, stage 2 head, big comp 270 cam with some crazy extractors from the UK,whats a guess at the power?more then my 1098 i hope ![]() |

if you're not going to put the car on the track I'd leave it at 1275 or if it needs a bore 1310.... you don't wanna take it all the way out straight away cause it just shortens the life of the 1275's which aren't exactly in abundance. just my thoughts anyway dewey |

1361 is a strange size.. what pistons would you run? Usual oversizes are: +.020" (1293), +.040" (1310), +.060" (1330), or +.115" (1380cc, 73.5mm bore). You used to be able to get 74.0mm pistons for 1400cc, but they seem to be rare now. I agree with Dewey- if 1275 block is stock and needs a bore, don't go all the way to 1380.. just go to 1310 or 1330, leave the biggie bore job for later. Good 1275 blocks don't grow on trees anymore. And, if you're going to turbo it, all the more reason to leave some metal around the bores. 1380s are pretty thin.. ![]() |

Mazda 808 1300 pistons are NOT real easy to get now, Mazda don't seem to stock 'em anymore. (my bro is spare parts manager at a Mazda dealer) Also the gudgeon pins are smaller than 1275 ones, so you need to bush the rods or get the Mazda pistons bored for 1275 pins. Too much trouble I reckon- I'd stick with ones designed to fit. ![]() |

I used a place at Mt Druitt last time- can't remember the name- they're on the main drag in the industrial area- go north across the railway line and turn left, it's 3 streets west I think, on a corner. They bored my 1098 to 1132- I used NOS 1968 vintage pistons (in BMC boxes!) and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. Unusual for an 1100... ![]() Next time I'll use Graham Russell at North Rocks, he's closer to me. And he does nice work too. |

I'd prolly go the next step up, 1293. If everytime you rebuild the engine, you take the next step up, you will have quite a few rebores left! |

Try and buy the Mazda ones first, let us know $$$, if you can get them.... And, I don't think they're dished? If they're flat tops, you'll be ripping lots of metal out of the head to keep the C/R down to around 10.5 or so for street use. I know this, 'coz I run flat top forged Mahle ones.. my head chambers are around 28cc now. ![]() <edit> I've been told Nissan (Datsun) 1200 pistons are another that can be fitted, dunno how available they are. Bore is 73mm I think, will give you about 1360cc. |

importing engines. Ok, something tells me importing a secondhand donk will strike some probs at rego time. Plenty of 1275 engines over there, but wondering if you could just bring one in and reco it, or whether there'd be any issue at rego time? If it's as easy as just importing an engine, (engine price plus around $200 freight), bugger the 1293, 1310 etc.. go the 1380 ... If it's trickier than simply shipping one over, then, yep, understand the stepping up. A+ engines and boxes unreco seem to be couple of thou from suppliers here BEFORE you take a spanner to them in which case... |

My `64 850 was fitted with a 1293 A+ motor when i bought it. It had been registered, with Weber and all, so I doubt there is a problem. |
