Post subject: | rod change gear shift mod |
Howdy fellow Ausminiérs Here is my question ![]() If anyone has done this before any advise or pics ![]() Over the past 7 years of running this car in different events the gear change has let us down on more than the odd occasion so you can understand why i want to try and fix it. Thanking you for your thoughts, pics and input. Cheers Jon |

Yes with mods to the case it has been done, but unfortunately you give up reverse gear (as it's in the road of the rod)... May not be too big a prob on a race car? ![]() |

Take out reverse gear and extend the shaft in the box. Works a treat, and use the front donk for reversing. Have not missed a gear yet - touch wood ![]() ![]() ![]() |

When I was tinkering in the shed, I found the reverse selector and gear controlled the amount of overthrow on both syncro hubs in one direction. Took reverse out and I had more overthrow. I controlled this by putting a “stop” on the rear of the shaft running through the box. I also removed the pin from the shaft so that I could get it into the box. The selectros hold the pin in place once assembled. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi Justfanginaround, Did you remove the pin from the selector shaft? If so, do you resecure it in the shaft, or is it just resting there, held in by the selector sleeve? |

the extension is stepped in to the end of the original shaft, the shaft is bored to be a press fit, the pin is a tap fit { medium bfh } and then it has a 1/8 hole through the lot with some tie wire just to make sure it won't fall out |

Sounds/looks good. I like the idea of the bolt on flang rather than the weld job on mine. I guess you could make the hole for the bolt on flange large enough to accept the pin so that you don't need to remove the pin or use the medium BFH. |

We welded a 1/4 alloy plate @ 90 deg to the shift rod onto the front of the gearbox and made a bolt in slug that uses a rod box std rear seal ![]() |

You could run an electric reverse if you get tired of pushing it around :p |
