Post subject:  998 +120 pistons

Hi All,

I'm from California and am restoring a Riley Elf Mk2 (from New Zealand). I want to keep the 998, but want as much "poke' as I can get.

Was wondering if anyone still has a set or 2 of the +120 flat top pistons? if not, where would the best place be to buy +100?

Oh, and for the rest of my motor:
12G295 Head (with unleaded seats)
Kent 276 or 266 (still to decide)
Weber 40DCOE
Megajolt for ignition (to tame the cam and Weber)
rods/crank/flywheel (slightly lightend) balanced but otherwise stock
Tranny: Stock ratios, 3.44 drive - might go to 3.1 if highway noise annoys me

Really hoping to keep up with the wifes Toyota Prius Hybrid :D

Thanks much for the help

Daniel

Hypatecs- http://www.minisport.com.au/prod1093.htm for +.100" flat tops.

Russell Engineering +.100" flat tops- http://www.minis.com.au/minis/catalog/p ... cts_id=660

+.120" seem scarce at the moment.

Thanks for the info Doc & AWoody

Not sure about going 1100 crank, they are a bit hard to find here...how much better is it for a street mini/commuter/weekend tracker over the 998?

Cheers,
Daniel

more stroke,,,+,,, more capacity = more torque/power

More driveable for a street car with a 1098 crank in, as you Yanks say `there ain't no replacement for displacement'.
Gives 10% more torque to start with, even if motor is stock.
Its p/no is 12G82, if you are looking for one on the web. You would then need to buy 1098 pistons, not 998 ones (1098s have ~3.75mm less wrist pin height to crown). Conrods are the same, 998-1098.

When buying one of these, try and get one that's still @ std size, or at -.010", and crack test it before buying.
