Hi, After buying a '09 R56 JCW and enjoying the power that a turbo brings. How hard/reliable is a turbo'ed twinky when compared with a NA twinky (price isn't really an issue with this project as it's been 5+ years already)? TheMiniMan, i'm sure you'll have some sort of input on this subject!  (side note, I haven't even started buying parts just spit balling here)Cheers, TheBlackMini |

It can all be built to have the same level of technology as any turbo import engine, reliability comes in to the quality level of the parts used, and how hard you push it. If you slap it together with el-cheapo, 2nd hand parts and run 10psi it'll end up breaking something. On the other hand if you build it to top quality specs but then run 30psi in it, well then it will end up breaking. Decide what you really need out of the engine and build the engine to those specs. |

I didn't say you don't need 30psi it's just less likley the engine will like keeping that pressure inside itself for long  .Really 100-200 bhp is enough any more than that it becomes more likley the engine will have a bad time. |

(side note, I haven't even started buying parts just spit balling here)Cheers, TheBlackMini well if price isn`t really an issue the turbo it theres no real "hard" part , not too sure what you mean when you say hard but if you mean "difficult" to build then no,,, there`s no real difference except you mod the pistons (lop the tops of them off) to lower compression for turbo,,, where-as with N/a you still mod the pistons but fly-cut them for valve reliefs,,, so in a sense it`s the same sort of work, just different  to turbo the donk after that is only a decent injection computer (we use Adaptronic) , grab a turbo exhaust manifold & dump pipe (we make & sell them), have an inlet plenum chamber made & add intercooler , throttle body & hoses etc to plumb it all in there are some sensors to buy but that`s all part of injecting any engine & i can walk you through the whole process quite easilly.... i also have a build guide available on CD with all this info on it. But if you mean how "Hard" does it go compared to an N/A Twinky??? then ,,, well,,, N/A twinky is maybe 120hp depending on your build spec.... & turbo Twinky is anything above 150, right through to 300hp if you wanted to be silly & waste a whole heap of tyre smoke we have run ours on 167hp for the last 4 plus years with no dramas except we shat one turbo along the way,,, absolutely nothing wrong with the engine or the box tho & we have run it past 200hp on a number of occassions
