Post subject:  tie rods??

Hey guys and gals,,

Im putting in some new cones and hi-los on the front of my mini. Im also changing all the bush's too including the tie rod ends... This leads me to a question, are the tie rods suppose to be bent? is this how they adjust the toe in without having adjustable tie rods????

My drivers side one is very bent and the other is alittle. Now i knew these where like this before i did the conversion but just thought they are ment to be like that.

thanks,
brad.

mine are straight, i adjusted them by putting spacer washers before/between the bushes and the subframe

"""Tie Rods""" are the things comming out from the steering rack, where you screw on the "tie rod ends"

"""Tie Bars""" (strut bars or radius rods as others like to call them) are the arms joining the lower control arm to the front of the subframe.

both tie rods & tie bars are meant to be straight,,,not bent.

Brad, if I had your power I'd be looking for adjustable ones, thicker & stronger.
$100.18/pr at Karcraft. Cheap.... :P

Consider the reason yours are bent! Does it have anything to do with the body/subframe? Getting straight ones may result in a worse geometry. Also I agree with DR if you can get the adjustable ones you are on the "track" to good handling. I converted my standard ones to adjustable and with the adjustable lower arms set up a really sweet handling package.

These things get bent usually because people jack under them, or tie onto them for towing or tiedown.
You can straighten them properly in a vice, if you take them off. But they are bloody flimsy for a car with big HP.
Might as well get thicker ones, and adjustable too. Good value for 100 bux!

Brad, I bought these along time ago but they are basically race spec, and fully adjustable. Weren't that much either considering. I have run over several pedestrians and they haven't come close to bending!
