Hey Guys
just wanted to know if anyone is running a street Car with a half roll cage.

1- is it legal due to the age of the car?
2- who makes them in Australia or do I have to go custom?
3- Anyone have any Pics of there set ups?

Hey Micool,

I don't have a half cage but have been looking into it.

I know in WA a 4 Point Roll Cage is legal in any car, although an application for modification needs to be made to the Department of Transport and approved prior to modification. The car then has to go over the pits to check the modification. I don't think it's required but the few people I know who have put a 4 point in their car (Sil80, RX7, S15) had the rear seats and rear seatbelts removed and had the car changed to a 2 seater.

I've been quoted here in Perth around $1200 for a custom weld in CAMS 4 point cage with harness mounts. I think Bond Roll Bars do a half cage (4 point) and also a full cage (6 point? with removable intrusion bars). It was awhile since I spoke to them but I'd say they still do it.

Hope this helps mate.

Cheers,
Keels.

yep, not in the mini though (cramped enough :D )
you'll find on older cars/pre ADR stuff, not only do we have much more latitude in the things we do to them, that you won't get pulled up for it (prob for that reason...), police tend to leave classics alone.
welded in halfcage (two seater so no problem)

bolted in halfcage (originally 4 seater so bolt in only)

http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsccs_faqs.pdf

Quote:
Can roll cages be used in vehicles as long as they
are designed and constructed properly?

Roll cages can be used in vehicles provided the
installation meets the applicable vehicle standards.
Installing a roll cage has the potential to affect one or more
Australian Design Rules (ADRs), in which case
certification will be required.
The relevant standard is the requirement in Clause 21 of
Schedule 2 of the Regulation that everything in a vehicle’s
construction and operation must not pose a danger to any
person.
Four-point roll cages can still meet this requirement,
however six-point roll cages cannot because the
configuration of a six-point roll cage creates a rigid item
directly in the head-strike area and obstructs the driver’s
vision through the windscreen and adjacent side windows.
A six-point roll cage may be installed in a vehicle if the
front part is removed when the vehicle is used on a road or
road-related area.
Guidance on the fitting of roll cages can be found in
Section LK of VSB No.14.

I have a 6 point cage in one of my street cars however it was engineered 10 years ago when laws were different. I still had to have it engineered as it is now registered as 2 seater because of the two rear arms that go to the parcel tray render the back seat useless. It's a bolt in cage with a diagonal brace behind the front seats.
