Howdy, Currently in the process of deciding which engine to put into my '63 mini. I have seen Brad's Mini-Toyota website ( do yourself a favour if you haven't seen it http://www.bradsmini.crew.org.au) however, I am not confident that this motor would fit in a roundnose. I was at the Swap Meet in Brisbane today and saw a yellow roundnose with a G13B in it but got home and completely forgot the website the guy has(anyone?). My fear with putting this motor in is that this is now a fairly dated motor and hard to come by. Any suggestion or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I know some people will say to just modify a mini motor i but just want that extra gear/ fuel injection/ mod con thing. I currently run an imported 1275 A+ with the late model HIF44 carb and electronic ignition which I will be selling once the conversion is complete. ![]() |

I've seen Brad's install up close and you are right, I doubt it will fit a roundnose. Suzi GTI may be dated, but fit neat, shouldn't be hard to get, and there are a few roundnoses running about with them in now. A couple lurk on this board- `dtmini' is one. <EDIT> I was just down at Brad's, he says some dude in NZ has a Starlet turbo in a roundnose, not on the road yet, but close. Sorry, no URL. |

Dr Mini, Have you seen the site of the guy in Canda that put the SOHC VTEC Honda motor in his roundnose? Looks freaking awesome but he did mention that there may be issues with the steering rack for RHD cars. |

I believe the yellow roundie at the Mini Muster was Cons, the same person who used to have the Clubman GTI turbo. his website is www.twincamturbo.com |

998_Clubman, I live in Hawthorne. I am prepared to go to all lengths of the earth to come and see your subframe if that isn't too much of an imposition? If you are going through the engine swap now maybe we could benefit from some ecomies of scale and split/reduce some of the costs for anything that may need to be fabricated. I went to Alljap over on the northside this morning (yep, public holiday) and I saw a nice little motor that may do the trick. It was a Suzuki Alto. 660cc 3 cyl 3EFI turbo thing. Bit concerned with the torque it would be capable of producing though. I looked at the taco and i think it redlines at about 10k rpm. Just a bike motor. Very keen on the GTI conversion however because the yellow one I saw yesterday just looked so damn neat. No doubt he has had some practice as when i was around the car I think I overheard him say that this was his third one. |

Daihatsu Charade turbo is another possibility. 990cc I think, 3 cyl, and a good bit smaller than a Toyota Starlet donk. There's some stuff about these on the Daihatsu forum http://bbs.daihard.org/ but I can't go there anymore- I'm one of the `great unwashed Yahoo crowd'. Dunno what their problem is with Yahoo, Hotmail et al.... ![]() |

i'll help split some costs aswell with anything that needs to be fabricated. maybe we could get two subframes made at the same time (might cut costs a little bit). if we could take the dimentions of 998s subframe to an engineer it would help alot. |

casmo have you already got a Gti motor/front cut? I've looked for them previously and found that aren't as readily available as some of the other front cuts. In the last couple of days I have gone to a few wreckers websites and have only managed to find one in Adelaide. |

Auctions? Meaning whole cars or front cuts/ engines. Are you looking to buy front cut or just motor? I'm looking for a front cut so we get everything (ie. computer). Did you speak to Con about what Engine Management System he uses? |

well, you can only get whole cars at the auctions (damaged or undamaged) i nearly got a whole suzuki swift gti 1987 model with the G13B engine. it went for $1200 but i didn't have enough money. im looking for whole car (written off), front cut or the engine and other parts separate. i didn't talk to con but i noticed that he used the standard engine computer from his donor swift (it's incorporated in the instrument cluster). i think his clubman conversion had a Intec engine management system. |
