Here's a quick quiz, can you convert a 1995 SPI rover to carbys..................and before someone say's yeah, you just bolt them on. I mean can you "legally" swap efi to carby? I couldn't find anything on the Queensland Transport site.......and I'm not going to ring/email them, I'll be dead from old age before they answer.

Well....a parallel import car brought in under the low volume permits is compelled to comply with the ADRs relevant to the year .

Would this mean the car violates compliance if the emissions came out second best to the EFI on conversion to carbs?

I understand that its very big no-no in NSW, I was told if caught the RTA (or what ever they are called these days) can deregister car, slap a pretty hefty fine and stop the car being registered again.

I havent read up on the laws or anthything, so dont hold me to it, but the person who told me is a pretty reliable source of info on car mods and blueslips etc...

Really.. does anybody test emission levels for rego these days? I've never seen it in NSW...

Hah, emissions? I was refering to an SPI mini, you could put a 4 barrel holley on it and still get better readings than the SPI. I've replaced everything including wiring and it still runs rich.

It's a popular pastime in UK to fit carb(s) instead of the SPI. And over there they DO test emissions annually. If they didn't pass they would be off the road.

It's technically illegal here [NSW anyway] to replace your motor with an `older' one (I was knocked back once when I swapped a late 998 Clubby one out for a 1098).
Effectively the inspector was arguing about the engine number on the [identical] block, so I went elsewhere.
How stupid is this rule- did engine reconditioners keep stock of newer motors when you wanted an exchange rebuild, NO of course they never did. Any Oz Mini from 1970 on with an 1100S motor in is breaking it. But lately most blueslip inspectors don't seem to care.

After trolling through Queensland Transport web site and finding nothing, I sent an email off to them. Should hear back sometime in the next few years.
