Hi all I currently have my 998cc 1968 Morris Mini Deluxe in rehab having a full overhaul. She is currently registered with an 1100cc clubby motor with 'S' discs but as of recently has had a transplant with a Metro A+ 1275cc engine. I was wondering how the NSW RTA feels about this. Will I definitely need a engineering certificate or can I get through with a change of details? I am trying to avoid getting it engineered because the main driver is a Provisional driver and cannot drive cars with an engineering certificate. If someone could shed some light it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks James |

No engineering needed. Just a blue slip for the engine swap. |

Its a factory engine - as long as the car has disc brakes you'll be fine. |

Well that put my mind at ease, I was worried about the certain % larger engine capacity needing a signatory. Thanks! |

Nah - A series is no problem. How else do you think people get their 1.6 and 1.8 converted cars registered? |

The only trouble I ever had with engine changes in NSW was when fitting a 1098 Clubby motor (~1974) into a 1978 Clubby. The dill doing the blueslip objected that the motor was `older than the car- you can't do that' he said. I said `the two blocks are identical, so we are just arguing about the numbers stamped on it?' `Yes' he said. I said `fine' and went elsewhere. ![]() I wonder how engine reconditioners got on then.. there was no guarantee their recond exchange engine was `newer' than your old one. |

I've registered a '71 1100 engine in an 88 model - didn't even have a cat or pollution gear! ![]() Funny how some are sticklers for the laws and other arent. You want to find the oldest inspector you can - younger people are more likely to be doing their job by the book. |
