Hey all I have just pulled the motor out of my clubby because of an oil leak and broken CV. I have a 12g295 head going on it and was also thinking a cam wouldn't hurt while I'm at it, I have access to a head shop so I was Wondering if using 202 intake valves as exhaust valves would work or would they be too big? I don't want to touch the bottom end as the bore walls are almost perfect, I do however want to build a gear box and have a couple of rod and remote changes, which of these is better to use and why? I'm after a bit more power until I can afford to build a twin cam 1275 my budget is around 3g for the 1098 I also want a weber (can't beat the sound) and already have extractors and exhaust system any other mods I should consider ( I want to build the gearbox so it will cope with the 1275 and I'm not including it in my budget)? One last thing what clutch/flywheel should I use?

Do NOT try to use 202 or most other standard intake valves as exhausts. Inlet valves do not get red hot like exhausts do. They will burn out quick smart.
Inlet valves are usually silchrome steel, exhaust are 21/4N stainless or similar.

Would of thought for your $3000, you could get a runner 1275 & drop straight in. I know you need discs too but you wouldn't drive a hot 1098 without them would you?????.

Ash is onto something here. When I had my 1100cc the best upgrade I made overall performance wise was to go from Drums to Disc brakes :!: Shorter stopping distances + more confidence = better overall performance.

Already have discs and coilovers, I will be building a 1275 for it but want to drive it in the meantime and I already have a 12g295 head that hasn't been skimmed yet so I might even go for a low boost turbo setup if I can get a turbo carby and plenum to cheap enough, I can get a turbo through a mate off a twin turbo skyline for cheap from memory I think the intake is ar40 and exhaust ar42, the manifold is not a problem as I have a Boily mate who owns me a few favours so I will just need an intercooler which are pretty cheap anyway, what else would I need?

why spend money on the 1100 when it's going to be replaced later?

I don't understand why you wouldn't do the gearbox now.... do a thorough job and a standard box will handle the twin cam 1275 just fine. Put a cross pin diff in it

remote change is better, nicer stick feel & keeps the engine steady

Cheers, I am no longer going to build the 1098 just go straight for building the 1275 as I am now painting it while its apart so I will have longer to save up
