Hi All

I have used the search button, to no avail

I do have the correct steering arms and I have longer tie rod ends.

As the above states I am wanting to centralise the steering rack, column and toe (out), this is purely to get the mini drivable to a wheel alignment joint.

Firstly I am assuming the tie rods should be on a similar amount of threads? This is the problem I have, one side has 6 threads showing and the other 17??

Initially I centralised the steering rack using the method in the manual - measuring from a bolt on the rack to the end of the (full lock) tie rod, then full lock the other way, measuring to the same points, adding both together and dividing by 2.
then made sure the steering column is set correctly - indicator stalk cancel thingy at the 9'oclock position (horizontal) steering wheel centred. Still, the tie rods are not equal on the steering rack ends.

Any help appreciated

Have a look on the left side of car, where the colomn would go throught on LHD. Pull out the rubber bung and see if there's a plastic plug in steering rack housing. If so, that's to centralise rack using a pin through hole.

That feature is only on some UK made racks. None of the common Cam Gears Aust racks have this feature.

With that much difference I would check the length of the rack's tierods both sides. Sounds like you may have a Morris 1100 rod on one side. They look the same, only 1/2" or so longer...
If this is the case, I'd leave it as is. You just have more thread engagement on that side, doesn't matter.. :wink:

How far away is the wheel alignment place?

if it's basically straight, and not that far, just drive it. Take your vice grips and 3/4" spanner with you and adjust it a bit if it feels bad

I bought a new tie rod end and had the same issue - not all are made the same. Some are a different length.

ok thanks for the advice guys, will double check the depth of each tie rod again, I know it wont break as its still on a good 20-25mm

it will be fine to drive to the suspension joint.

I assume you have confirmed the "suspension joint" can align 10 inch wheels, not all can.

yes, i have 13inch so no problem
