Here’s hoping I like the magic wand shifter.. I’ve never driven a car with one so hopefully it’s ok!

My order turned up yesterday with the thick thrust washer and now I’ve got the primary gear all shimmed up to spec.

I’ve also got the extra shims for the diff bearings so that’ll be sorted soon, then bolt it all up for good!

Confident or possibly deluded

At least the diff shimming I’ve done before, I’m confident in that. The rest will be a learning experience

That's all I've ever owned, but I have driven plenty with remote or rod change shifts. The magic wand is a whole new experience though. Personally, I quite like them when they are new and tight as I like the direct link to the gearbox so I can feel the gear changes / gearbox very easily. Even mine at the moment which is actually shot, is still easy to use and no problem, but slower of course.

I've always played with the idea of making up a gated gearshift for the magic wand -something like this below, but it would have to sit where the gear change shaft came through the floor, or close to it.

Thanks Clip, the gated shifter would be a fun idea

I got a few things done today... hopefully by next weekend it’ll be in the car

Man Timmy that looks amazing. I'm a bit behind in my Ausmini reading, I've got to go back and get up to date!

I still haven't heard if the paint is back in stock, and the shop is a 4 hour round trip... Might try and contact them again this week.

Thanks Morbo! Have you had any progress on the 998 project?

Hi clip, I’m still aiming for the October long weekend for a local show. Any earlier than that will be a bonus.

Unfortunately the clutch assembly that worked well with the 998 doesn’t have enough travel for the new engine. The slave cylinder is running out of travel (hitting the circlip) which is due to some wear in the arm & plunger and also the difference between the coil spring and diaphragm. You can see the clutch arm when adjusted is almost at 90 degrees to the plunger, when it should be angled much more toward the engine

I’ve got new parts from the pushrod to the diaphragm (arm, plunger, bearing and clevis pins) coming in soon, so it’ll be a bit of a job to replace them without removing the engine.

It's an easy job with no booster in the way. Just bend a cheap 1/2" ring/OE spanner 45° at ring end to easily reach the 2 bottom bolts.
