Post subject: | Which 1275 to modify??? |
Hi guys, I have just picked up another moke for parts (collecting next weekend). So I will have 2 Californian mokes, both 1275 models, one is late 78 and the other is late 79. I think there is a difference between the engines, the earlier one is a thin flange block and the later one has a thick flange block. I will keep one of the mokes original but will part the other one. To much rust to recover. Which engine would be the better one to build a strong modified grunt box? Stroker 7 port or something. |

Either 1275 block will be fine. Even a thin flange 1275 block is more rigid than a thick flange 1275S one. |

Wouldn't you just keep the correct motor with the car your keeping original? |

Why would a late Californian have a thin flange block anyway? |

All 1275 blocks from ~1969?-1970 on were thick flange. No idea of the engine numbers for a late 70s Moke though. I believe the very last (~1981?) gal Mokes had a 1275 A+ motor, we put one in Barney the pretend S. [edit] Barney's A+ motor was a 12H706AAZ one |

I have a moke thick flange 1275 block in my 63 mini. It's engine number is 1204 ****. Not sure what year it is though. |

The 1204 block is out of the Export Moke from 72-73. The late Mokes from 78 to 82 with the 1275 motor have a 12H902 motor and maybe a 12H905 on the last ones. There might be another couple of prefixes as well. A thin flange block is going to be a 12YD/Ta/H from 67/68. |

PM John Sneddon on here. He has a full list of Mini and Moke body and engine number data. |

No idea, but the 706AAZ is an A+ block, the others are not. Don't these UK sourced numbers just indicate the odds and ends fitted? eg alternator, emissions gear or not, etc? [edit] Seems common to late Mokes- http://www.moke.com.au/australian-moke- ... ?start=270 |
