Hey Guys So i have started to do the engine on the van, at this stage it will be a stage 3ish street motor. At a later date I may want to turbo it and was wondering if there is any "future proofing" i should do whilst building it? I know id have to change cam and CR later but is there anything internally I should consider during the build? Darcy |

Diff pin - go cross pin or LSD |

Yes, put a STRONG diff in it and also get the gearbox built properly with good parts. What engine are you using? Good pistons and rings are also a must but depending on how long you go before upgrading to the turbo, the bores may need a hone then anyway which could be a good chance to install the new high quality pistons and rings then and just run cheap ones for now. You could also build the engine to turbo specs now and just swap the cam out and "de-tune" it to run N/A for now. you will be down on power but if your using a large cc engine (1310 or bigger for example) then the power could still be around the hot 1098 or weak 1275 outputs anyway. My Rover 1275 made 45bhp which is low but still moves me around quiet well. |

so at the moment I'm building a 1098 to the same spec as GRs small bore project, everything in the build is new or rebuilt/reground. I'm not using any original parts. GR currently has my wide lobe copper s cam and is regrinding it, my block is at a local shop getting bathed and the crank is being crack tested and shot peened. Ill use all new bearings and ARP boys wherever possible, flywheel is a minispares ultra light with ap race clutch and orange plate. Im still deciding wether to go for a belt or good chain set up for the cam. I'm using 1.5 rockers ( not roller ) and dual springs in a head thats getting some GR magic in the coming months. the rotating assembly will be balanced by a local shop. ill will either run with omega or gr pistons. I'm thinking i will run with a 38 or 44 su now so i can still use that to turbo later on. I was going to use a jack knight cowl diff but a few people have told me these are rough to drive in normal conditions and heavy on the steering so on advice of others i will run an atb quaife. so sounds like if a just build it the way I'm going should be all good later on with a few minor changes. Any one else running a small bore turbo? Darcy |

I reckon you will need the 1 3/4 su. I doubt a 1 1/2 would be enough for what your looking at, especially later with a turbo. I'm sure GR would say the same. |

If they are Minispares 1.5 `forged' rockers, check the adjuster screws are straight. I had a set recently where they were all bent, = ratio all over the place. If you find this, bin them and fit some s/h ones from a sintered rocker set. |

Might as well setup the oil feed and return for the turbo and blank it off, add an oil cooler if you haven't. Fit the firewall with heat proof. Upgrade your Radiator Fit electronic ignition Upgrade to fade resistant brake pads |
