Hi all, I went to the imm last year in the UK and saw a fair few Minis with this fitted under the bonnet. I'm looking at building a new a series engine. Just wondering where I can get some info on this set up for the street. Cheers.

M45 Eaton supercharger, lots of places sell the kits. That one looks to be injected, you can only get carby versions off the shelf. I have just finished having mine injected as the carb setup just doesnt seem to work very well without modifications. Looking at that guys setup I reckon he has about $15k in the engine bay. The eaton produces a lot of heat, sprintex or sc12 may be a better option or even grab a metro turbo set up. Either way be prepared to spend lots of $$$ to get it right. |

I have a VMAXSCART kit from UK and it kind of works OK. Just not happy in stop start traffic but great out on the open road. Yes be prepared to spend a bit. |

There is a much more efficient version of the same blower. Its called a TVS900. Can be a direct replacement for the M45 on the BMW Cooper S. They are more pricey and are a brand new unit so not found at the wreckers but the thermal efficiency of the TVS kills just about any other blower on the market. They are smaller in size than the M45 and will fit with a mini bulkhead, even running a cooling block between the blower and manifold. My new sports sedan will be running one with a 48DCOE so will post up a build guide once its done. |

I have this supercharger, although not yet in the car.. Have had a few long conversations with GR (who is building my motor) regarding this kit... I note that other guys who have fitted them have had issues with thermal efficiency and condensation between the carb and blower. If you have a good look at the VMAXSCART manifold, the outlet between the supercharger and the manifold is severely restricted.. GR has designed a new manifold for me to allow better flow.. But I am yet to see how this is going to improve things... Can't help but agree that the restricted outflow of air = increased temp and therefore poor thermal efficiency.. Even though the Eaton M45 generally runs hot, I hoping that a little redesign of the afore mentioned manifold will improve the efficiency.. Happy to hear your opinions... |

I've seen GR's manifold improvement, it definitely would make it better. How about fitting a Sprintex blower instead, IMO that would be better still.

Probably right doc, but already have the $ invested in the M45... Will be interested to see if I still have to idle problems and condensation issues that others have had in the past... That being said.. It is about time that I hassle GR again about my motor... Good things come to those that wait... |

I have also had a custom inlet manifold made which is way better flowing than the vmax kit. Cant really say much about less condensation as I went injection at the same time. What I can say is after having heat issues with the carby and converting to twin radiators, I barely get to operating temp now. Need to sort a solenoid to open the second side when and if needed but I have other projects so not ready to look at that yet. |
