Hi All! Just after your opinion on a fairly simple issue. My clubman van is running a fairly beaten up but serviceable original tank, with a facet fuel pump for the weber, which seems to work fairly well. The only issue being on a hot day, fuel pours out of the vented fuel cap and down the bodywork. Though I haven't caught fire yet, it's not great on the paintwork! I've previously assumed this just a result of designing a tank that vents through the cap, but is there anything more to it? Changing the cap has made no difference. What's the solution? Custom vented tank or can you just install a vent to the existing tank? Part of me wants to use it as an excuse for something custom in alloy, but I feel I should investigate the other options first... |

Later vans have a sealed cap, and a separate vent pipe running right forward, up the bulkhead and into the charcoal canister. You could do this too, if no canister fitted, just turn a vent cap up from alloy or plastic to push onto the pipe, with a few 1.5mm vent holes in it. |

What year model is your van Mr Orange , i have a 77 van , here's a pic of the tank , i'm not sure which pipe is the breather , i'd have to have another look , i thought it might be the pipe that you can see , or it might be the fitting that comes from the backside of the neck filler that you can't see in the pic .

It's a '73. That all makes sense as the charcoal canister ADR came in between our two vans. Thanks, will take a look into it. Looking at the tank this afternoon it's leaking from underneath somewhere so I might look into getting a custom one made up. Good excuse anyway, can barely get 200km out of a tank with the 1275... |

Allegedly 27L, though I swear mine only takes 20L. |

I have the apparently 25l fuel tank in my 998, and I have only once been able to fit 20 litres after driving for a long time after the gauge read empty. Maybe the gauge is just very conservative? |

my 65 van running an 1100 went from Geelong to Warnambool on the first of the VMCI Western Tours got to the new (then) BP and put 27.1 lt into the tank . it was reading E for enough since the last town on the Great Ocean Road, |

Suggestion: make yours water tight, fill till you can see it lapping where the filler pipe starts....drain into containers marked litres and add them up. Empty tank, leave to dry in sun ensuring all water is gone (lay upside down for a while... Flush with Metho. leave to dry in sun. Refit to van |

Yeah , not a bad idea , if i find some time i might try it , just thought i'd ask because i've been too lazy to check my books and find out what the tanks capacity is  .

They made a manual just for orange Leylands? Awesome!  But yes, that was my impression on the tank capacity as well. If it's going to the fabricator anyway, does anyone have any opinions on half cage design for a van? |

Sedan half cage modified with longer legs to rear upper suspension mounting points and a cross brace? |
