Post subject: | Cooper S Rockers...Whats the best |
Been going through a few posts about the best Rockers to use in a Cooper S MK2 1275 cc My rockers have worn bushes and possibly rocker shaft So its a toss up between reco what i have or go new Some say 1.5/1 ratio Some say 1.3/1 Some say the forged 1.5/1 from Mini spares are good Some of the roller rockers are rubbish So can someone tell me what is the best way to go I am not into revving the ring out of it But would like a little bit more top end I will check on the lift of the cam as the engine was rebuilt before my time You help is appreciated ![]() |

I have used a number of the MS 1.5:1 forged rockers over the years. I really like them as they will make a relatively normal cam into something a little sportier with a little increased lift. If it doesn't suit anymore, then you can just take them off in about half an hour. I usually rebuild a stock set of rockers at the same time so I have them ready to go and I don't need to swap pieces out from stock to 1.5. You can put offset bushes into Cooper S forged rockers, but the gain in lift is minimal for the effort expended. You can get good roller rockers and you can get bad, you just need to pay good coin. |

I have purchased a set of 1.5 Forged MS rockers for my stock MK1 S. When the head goes back on I will fit them and report back. 5 - 10 years maybe. ![]() |

Someone said the old Minisport 1.5s were weak, maybe. Lately I found in an engine valve crush that resulted in lobes of the cam severly worn, dishes in the tips of valves but the rollers were fine. Tough stuff. |

1.5 rockers will give more top end, I've had good life from the original Minispares 1.5:1 forged ones. Done over 50,000 miles now and are still fine (so are the bronze valve guides). However I bought another new set a couple of years ago for a rally motor I built, and found: 1. 7 of the 8 adjusters were bent. I replaced them with stock late ones from sintered rockers. 2. The nuts didn't sit flat on top of any of the rockers. 3. During machining to let the nuts sit flat, I found these 1.5 rockers are now cast iron, not forged steel. The pads were hard, though. Another set I got for a member here last year still had bent adjusters, but the nuts sat flat. Again, I threw the adjusters away. Whoever is making these parts has very poor quality control. re the stock factory rockers, Cooper S ones have less lift than all the others. |

I had the pads on a set wear down, but that was a failure in the stelite tips of my valves I was using. I had them reground, still seem ok... |
