So I'm using a straight edge to determine the difference between the cam and crank gears. In the Ausmini engine build 'how to' it says push the cam up against the thrust plate. But what about the crank gear? There is end float on the crank, so do I push it towards the front (water pump end) or back towards the clutch?? I know the crank is pushed forwards when the clutch pedal is pushed, but where does it 'sit' when running? Pushing the crank one way or the other affects the gap between the gears. |

Towards the clutch, ie, where it will sit when the bolt is tightened on the end of the cam. Then you use shims as required behind the gear (between the crank and the cam) to lessen the offset. |

Thanks Mick. So I'm pushing the cam shaft with the gear and thrust plate in place towards the water pump and the crankshaft with the gear on the end the other way, and then shim the difference. Correct? |
