I have seven port head .Elder.About to build and happy :)
I am curious re cam choice when the exhaust ports are quite large compared to the beautiful intakes.
Will this mean scavenging effects from a high overlap cam will be ineffective .
I also understand a larger engine will smooth out a greater duration cam.
My engine is 73 mm bore with 84 mm stroke 1410 or so.Oversquare.
Don't want to rev to 8000 incase tears.
Has anyone got reports on engine builds and results.Ive heard good.
Thanks in advance

Talk to Graham Russell, he developed the head, knows what cams work with this head and what doesn't.
The Elder 7 port replaced their 8 port, I think cams used would work the same.

Dean Canto's ute has the Elder 8 port with MPI fitted, I know Graham has tried at least 2 different cams in that car. Of course it is a roady, not a racer.

I hope Graham has forgiven me.
Lifes problems and anger .
I have motor bike carbs 37mm id .My head has 30mm ports .
I need to curve and make csd changes as smooth as possible.
I also have webers but I like cd carbs .I also like the way the japs have made the idle circuit and progression independent of the needle .Then you can raise and lower the needle for midrange and choose the best main jet for wot.
Thanks Doc

I told Graham I wanted a 282 not knowing all the intricacies of cam choice and that's what I have because I wanted it.
But I know electronics and I wonder if MY CHOICE was wrong??
This build means a lot to me .
