I'm almost sure that the shoes that were on the car were upside down can someone please tell me or post pics of the correct way to assemble the rear shoes.

I know its a little small...but I don't have the orginal now..maybe save it and zoom in

Too fuzzy when i zoom into it.

From what i can see that these little buggers where both facing the same direction.

So they go in, one with the keyhole looking bit up and the other down. But does it matter which one is up or down, the left side or the right side, and what about the other side.

They were in wrong, ill be off to fix it up now.

If you look at gafmos pic you will how not to assemble the shoes!

It is important to have the leading and trailing shoes the right way around.

It sure is...otherwise they can grab like bar stewards....bit cryptic tho Mike...draw us a picture [nite ]

So what your saying is that the diagram shows the right hand side thats ok, and gafmo's pic is of the left side.
Gafmo's pic set up should have the shoes fliped over left to right.
Yes or am i getting confussed now.

Notice that the leading edge of each lining is set back from the start of the shoe. This is to stop the brakes grabbing.

Well bugger me..that was 2 years ago now. I actualy took a photo before pulling it apart and put it back the way after the Painting Well I may just have to touch Marcia for the first time in 18 Months on the weekend.

Look at the right hand picture and imagine a rotating drum on the outside.

When you stick your foot on the brake the wheel cylinder expands pushing the shoes towards the rotating drum.
When the leading shoe (on the right hand side it is the rear shoe) touches the drum the rotation tries to grab the shoe and force it outwards. So they cut off the first bit of the lining so that is not as harsh.

Might be too late then Gaf....if the shoes have worn down unevenly I wouldn't be turning them around. Get some new ones on or get yours ground/rounded up again if there is still plenty of meat on them

Don't forget the chamfer on the leading edge.
