I know this seems like a basic question, but would still appreciate some input. I'm wondering if there is any particular brand of motor oil to use in my mini (Rover '93). Are some better for the mini than others?

Any recommendations??

I use "Castrol original 20/50" I've had no problems.
My brother curses that I use castrol, he says use HPR Penrite

I was using Penrite HPR30 for about 8 years with no dramas (so I thought!)

I am now using Kmart KMX oil which is made by Shell. It is cheaper and my car no longer leaks oil from the rear main seal. That right! I changed oil brands and an oil leak disappeared! I also have less mayo in the rocker cover during winter as well.

Oil is one of those things where you ask 20 people and get 20 different answers. I swear by Fuchs. I've tried Shell which leaked and burned off really quick, and Nulon which leaked like water. I reckon the best thing to do is try a bunch. It's only about $25 for oil and a filter, so just try one type, then 150-200 k's later try something else.

BP Coarse + in my Cooper S and GTX 20/50 original in all of the others. Some times I have used Penrite 50 when engines are a bit tired.
Been using Coarse + in my Cooper S for many years (30  ) with no issues and engine always nice and clean when I pull it down for a rebuild.
