Just a quicky

I have this on my mini http://www.minisport.com.au/prod1003.htm and want to get a new filter for it from supercrap. anyone know the applicable part number to use if i get a ryco brand filter? or is it just easier if i take it in and size it up?

cheers

Brendan

What you do is thake the old oil filter you take out of the car with you to Supercrap and hand it to the Chick behind the counter to check stock. Make sure it has some oil on it so she can spill it on herself and the counter in the process. Look for a dumb one.. Works well ! ooops Sorry it has oil in it. !!!

Ryco filters are now made in China like most of the others, so I now use `Cooper' brand ones (made in the same place). $3.50 ea, if I buy a dozen.

Why do you do it up so tight? :?

Before I change the filter I wipe the rubber seal with fresh oil and do the filter up until it *just* seals and then do another 1/3 to 1/2 a turn. Easy peasy to just undo it with your hand next time without the need for a special tool :?

I don't do it up tight - I do it the same as you, maybe a little tighter, but only hand tight..... I guess I'm just a wuss

I used to do it that way until I found it barely `2 fingers tight' at 1000 miles..
Now I get it pretty hand tight.

I have a T&E 4278, better made than the Supercrap one. Just found it on the web in a catalog but it's PDF and I can't grab the pic.
Google www.tetools.com
load the catalog and scroll down to oil filter tools.

take a 3/8" drive socket - it's a cam action, it tightens up as you undo it with the socket ratchet. Took a couple of minutes to work out how it behaved, but is very easy to use now, don't even need to take the grille out

Here's mine, the Yankee original. There are cheapo Asian copies about that use 3 bent bolts instead of gear arms..
That is a 1/2-3/8 drive adaptor in the middle...
