Can it be refunded to the owner/purchaser? Is if forfeited if i bring it to NSW and rego?

I'm in QLD and bought a mini from NSW 3 years ago.

The rego had 6months left on it so we used that until it was time to re-register it (got a road-worthy and all that jazz).

I think you can unregister the car and claim the remaining rego (which in my case was $30...not all that worth it).

It might be different for your state so correct me if I'm wrong fellow ausminiers

it's not forfeited, as the new owner you should just be able to post teh plates back to vicroads and they'll send you a cheque

have a look at the vicroads website

What's a year's rego worth in Vic? What about the greenslip is it included?

Cause in NSW it's like ~$230 for the mini + $600 greenslip.. That's alot of the car if i can get it back?

Unless it's changed, if you unregister a car you forfeit the Registration fee, taxes, etc, but receive a refund on the "unused" period of the TAC (Third Party insurance)

mate i just did it on the Rover. You get registration, but you dont get refund on green slip... unless i am wrong. Well i didnt. Stupid insurance companies.

Anyway... its p1ss easy to do it. And you dont have to send the plates down, you give them to RTA, they give you a confirmation slip, you send that to VIC ROads with form from their website.

I bought an ACT reg car and was unlucky enough to be picked out at random for a full blown RTA VIN inspection. They cancelled the rego and took the plates off then I had to drive it 35km to Penrith to the inspection station with no plates, should have gone through the M4 speed camera at warp speed. They pulled the interior out to check for signs of re-birthing in case it was a stolen car ( I reckon technically it was a stolen car as it was ex- government and they originally bought it with money they stole out of my pay packet)

When I bought a NSW car back in 1999, I got a refund on the unused rego (had to drive to Queanbeyan RTA to get it) and am fairly sure that I also some money back from the insurance company.

I bought another NSW car in about 2005 but it only had a month or two rego on it and you end up losing all the refunds in costs (bastards).
