I'm going to get my spare wheel blasted and then repainted.

Originally were they silver all over?

The inside of mine looks original and it seems to be black and/or red undercoat.

Yes silver all over, silver ash was one of the colours used.

I belive you are correct here.

LP883 wheels were painted with a red oxide primer, then painted black. The silver was then painted on the outside only, you should be able to see the black/red on the inside of the rim. I have restored a number of these wheels and thats the way I repaint them, I belive this to be correct.

Silver birch metallic 06968 Duco (acrylic) was a colour too,

but you probably already knew that.
