well the last thing i have left to do before i go for roadworthy is to make the speedo work.
The cable is fine and the speedo works but doesnt work when driving. i assume that it is the drive that spins the cable that is broken (see pic)

ok. i fiddled with it. it spins freely when 'pulled up' but sort of sticks when in. does it have a lock / unlock position? or should it not spin at all.
what sould i do, can you replace whatever spins the cable or is it like big job. i really wanted to be on the road next week but i think i may have hit a snag.

sorry mate but you are missing half the bits off the speedo drive. at the engine end it should have a plate that goes over the hole that is visible in the pic. This plate has a screw thread that the speedo cable attchs to. you will need a new speedo cable. I can upload a pic to show you as i have just gotten a new computer and havn't set it u for FTP yet. I am sure someone willbe along anyminute that can take a pic to show you. This is going to be a hard job with the motor in. But you do have the cooper output shafts and they will at least drop out of the way. Good Luck

Cheers

Aaron

Put it back on (new Gasket) and buy a new speedo cable. Easy! :)
It should be pushed in as it meshes it cog to the gearbox and hence will spin when you move.

Cheers

If the cog is in correctly . ie push all the way in, it shouldn't spin unless the car is moving forward., have you taken out the cog to have a look it isn't all chewed up? There isn't much in there that can break. just make sure it is all the way in.

Cheers

stick it all back in and take it for a drive. It'll work, or it won't... :? You'll be right.

Cheers

Try to get that bit out of the gearbox to inspect it. It will come out, maybe stuck a little. The drive gear on that bit is nylon or plastic and may have stripped. The other drive gear (from the mainshaft) is metal and is unlikely to stuffed. You need to find where the problem is.

The speedo gear is part number 22A1881 and is listed for $40.07 in the Karcraft price list (dated 16/5/05)
