Hi mate, are you talking about that brass collar/bushing? Or the white nylon bushing?

I reckon he's talking about the brass collar, but the nylon bush has a split in it doesn't it?

Guessing the brass bush needs to come off before the nolathane and the shroud can?

So with that in out shaft looks like it wants to slide out of the shroud now. But still having a little bit of trouble.......

Will the brass bush slide through the shroud?

Thanks for any input Fellas

you shouldn't actually need to take the column out of the shroud, the top and bottom bushes can both be replaced while it's in there... but you might want it out to paint & clean properly

the brass bush is probably a press fit and might be hard to get off without damaging it, I've never tried

Slide the brass bush up off the two piece nylon bush under it
the nylon under the brass is to insulate the horn wire
when you get it apart it will make sence
with this all off you can slide the inner shaft out the bottom of the outer shroud

Keerect...and for the felt bush on the bottom of the shaft, the process is as follows:
- remove old felt bush
- buy new felt
- wrap new felt around inner column
- realise it won't hold itself there
- wrap new felt in electrical tape to hold it to the inner column (wonder if that will render it ineffective, but do it anyway)
- trial fit inner column inside outer shroud
- when it doesn't fit, re-wrap new felt tighter and wrap electrical tape even tighter
- realise it still won't fit insider outer shroud
- undo electrical tape and remove new felt
- install old felt back where it came from
- reinstall steering column
- get on with life
- never think of it again

Yep, slacko is spot on. Just a couple of extra tips.
When you remove the brass horn bush, the nylon bush underneath is in 2 halves. One slips off easily, the other half contains the horn wiring, treat it with care. Slowly push the horn wire back down the shaft and at the same time slowly lever it out with the halved nylon bush, keeping both together. (Hope this bit makes sense). Also remove the small indicator cancelling screw from the steering wheel. Inner shaft can now be removed. Replace the top bush in the outer shaft. Reinstall the inner shaft, and when nearly home, reinstall the lower felt bush. NOTE: if you reinstall the lower felt bush before reinstalling the inner shaft, it will slide up into the outer shaft as you push the inner shaft in, so leave it until the inner shaft is nearly all the way home.

And if the slot has closed up, cut it again with an angle grinder. Check also the spline inside.
