Just to cover off the earlier question about what happens if an electronic unit fails, if the unit in question is a MegaJolt, then the fact you've got to run them in conjunction with a Ford EDIS module covers it off. It defaults to 10º of advance. Still lovin' my MegaJolt...

Lots of them out there. You may need to start a new thread as everyone has their opinions and can share their good and bad stories.

Any will be better than running points. Easier starting and more precise spark. The ones with adaptive dwell will also help keep the coil cooler.

The cheap ones like Accuspark and Powerspark start at around $60 for a drop in kit. Or you can go a distributor less system worth $1000.

Be aware that many of them don't like the ignition left on more than a minute or so, if the magnet and pickup happen to be in the trigger position, it can fry the module.
Also, if you have the Accuspark stealth box, the dizzy's electronic module doesn't drive the coil direct, it just triggers the stealth box. So the above warning won't apply.

I still have the old Aldon igniter pointless ignition module in mine...was a godsend let me tell you driving from Canberra to Sydney every week and invariably in the shitty rain that always hangs around Marulan! I think they were redone by Petronix later on...I might have to look at mine as the poor car hasn't been started since 2007!!!! I do hope the brand new engine (2008!!!) hasn't shat the biscuit before I have even started it.

Hooroo

Thanks I was looking at the Aldon ones. I was trying to stay away from the modules.
The CSI unit with an immobilizer built in has taken my eye with 16 settings it should have one I like[CONFOUNDED FACE]

"I was trying to stay away from the modules."...Why? "I was trying to stay away from the points!"...Completely understandable!!!

"The CSI unit with an immobilizer built in has taken my eye with 16 settings"...

Immobilsers, if they are simple and reliable are fine. But when your car stalls in the middle of an intersection and you have to wait for the time delay some immobilisers have...you could be in a world of hurt...

You may need someone who really knows the CSI unit/A Series distributer and ignition to set it up right and get the best results out of it...

May I be so bold as to suggest, that you just throw in a simple Aldon or Pertronix kit and give that a go :?:

Just make sure that what ever you use you actually know the advance curve on it. The generic "fits 850 to 1275" distributors will physically fit, but won't run all engines properly. Even though it might have 16 settings will any of them be right? At least with a blackbox you actually know the advance (and can easily tune it too).

Both very good points I didn't think about the stalling issue.
Sounds like the black box might be on the investigation list
