Below is the end of the original insulation blanket from my MK II S, to suit the 12AUW wiper motor. By cutting a similar shape out of the MKO item it should fit and I think would look OK for most situations. The existing recess in the mat (for a Mark 1 wiper motor) should be mostly hidden from view by the wiper motor itself. I guess it just depends on how far people are prepared to go for an original look. I know some Mini owners simply want to cut down the engine bay noise and don't want to mess around making their own so an off-the-shelf product may suit their needs.
For pure cost reasons I can understand Mini spares businesses being reluctant to have insulation mats, carpet sets, underlay, etc. tailored to every possible situation to suit the full range of Australian assembled Minis. A quick search of online stores shows Minisport SA selling one style firewall mat for all Mini models with instructions "...
will fit any model mini, all you do is get to it with a knife.". You can see the style Minis Plus sell via the link earlier in this thread. MKO has its solution.
Without these organisations Australian Mini enthusiasts would be much worse off so we should support them where we can. Of course the option to go to a professional motor trimmer is always there, but you usually pay a premium for the privilege and still may not get the desired quality.
