cool, as I said earlier I will leave regrind to whoever buys it after I get it tested. But I will get them to measure it up to see how much it is worn :-)

Well bad news, mine has several cracks, and I'm out of pocket for the test. But at least we didn't put it in a rebuilt motor and have it go BANG!!!

This black light fluorescent test also validated my dyecheck kit, which also showed at least 1 crack.
[edit] This is a basically a magnaflux process. The crank is magnetised and a mixture of kero + iron filings (or modern equivalent) poured over it.
Filings stand on end where a crack is detected.

I went and picked up my dead crank. Was cracked 1/3 of the way round #1 crankpin. Due to the previous regrind gouging the fillet radius.
St George Cranks now routinely crack tests ALL Mini cranks before grinding. Because at least half those he gets in are cracked.

[edit]
I would be wary of old 1098 cranks now, they flex and suffer from cracking much more than 998 ones do.

I have a crank here that tested good, problem is now I'm afraid to part with it. Also have a 1098 clubman motor sitting somewhere, could be junk too!
