Well done! (just how I like my steaks!)
Thanks. It turned out to be a bit bigger than expected. Started last November. I got in contact with Bob Williamson and he sent me many photos of the car including ones from his garage 3 weeks before the race. He also gave me a pretty detailed list on what was changed on the car from the 45mm weber they ran, down to the steering wheel cover.
I must thank a few people who helped me sourcing bits. TheMiniMan - Matt Read who serviced and loaned me his weber and short manifold and a few other bits and pieces and a quick engine removal to sort a few issues, low n blown (Greg) who loaned me his 'period' 3 leg roll cage and other bits and winabbey (Doug) who searched his garage for that 'period' race harness. thanks guys !!
Painted the roof of my car so its now monotone.
Then the graphics which took all the time. Original sign writing was done on clear fabulon in those days. Not now. Many hours and late nights were done trying to replicate fonts and old stickers (Loctite, KMAC and K&H for example) which you cannot find now. Searching through old mags did the trick and after copying adverts then had to find the correct fonts for each word. Then of course the dealer signs and the adverts on the side of the car. They are not perfect, and maybe one or two out by a few mm's (
yes i'm pedantic) but happy with the result. must thanks MYLA Graphics at Darra (talk to Ken or Richard). all great to work with.
Even the Shell emblem is different for different years so we looked for the 1970-1975 one. and Bridgestone changed the old font ages ago and the correct one had to be sourced.
The ARDC stickers were produced by photos supplied by various people and old adverts. The reproduction NSW rego label confused many at the Qld Muster last Sunday.
The biggest decision was whether to place a few stickers 'crooked' like they were or have them straight ??
Some of the old timers here will remember that the in the old Bathurst days some companies on the prizemoney list would pay prizemoney if you carried their stickers and got a placing in your class. Hence the KMAC , Loctite and K&H went on at the last minute !!....and not straight
At least the new materials used for the stickers don't crease or bubble like the old ones. - and heat guns are a must.
The first photo is during practice hence some stickers are missing and the rear windows are opened. They were closed and secured during the race with the occy strap (see earlier photo)
Hope to meet some more forum members at Bathurst. Come and say hi. There is one minor issue that i didn't do. Don't try and guess until after Bathurst.
