You would need a one owner Mini K to confirm the kph speedo.

I am sure hundreds were changed over the years for those that can't workout the conversions in the head.

I bought an XA Falcon 351 in 1973. It had a mph speedo.
I didn't do any conversion for kph, but I did get places a lot quicker 8)

I've had a 69, 70 and 71 Mini K (should never have sold them of course!) and am pretty sure they all had km/h speedo's, definitely the 70 K one as it's now in my Deluxe. (The 71 car had those horrible flip up door handles)

My 1970 Matic (same body) was 90MPH. Ditto a '69 Matic I had.
If metric, someone has changed it, IMO. Even early Cubbies were MPH.
Btw yes I was here then, driving Minis and Fiats. :)

Our 1969 K has a MPH speedo, but then as it is a very early one it would be expected. I have seen a lot with the sticker MPH/KPH overlays on them. The odo is still in miles of course.

As there was no requirement for the speedo face to be in KPH before 1 July 1988 manufacturers could have gradually changed over at their leisure. In fact, prior to this date, there was no requirement to actually have a speedo.

The Mini K production period was March 1969 to June 1971 so I doubt any vehicles were fitted with a metric faced speedometer from the factory. Certainly the BMC Australia engineering drawing for the K speedo (part AYA9165) shows mph only.

Please do...the "made in Australia" part has got my interest :D

Local manufacture don't seem to have been proved so far...the engineering drawing is too low rez to see if there are any clues to local suppliers etc

Smiths Industries in Sydney may have got some work silk screening Km/Hr dials for pommie speedos but I don't recall them making the instruments themselves...

I understood the MK 2 S speedo was local. It had Australian R&D clues 'lets make this puppy cheaper'. Coloured plastic sheet for its lamp bezels??

That's really odd because I have a km/h one and it was taken from a 70K I wrecked....

The numbers are:

SN 4421/116 SA with "860" under the 1/10's scale.

Did you click on the image? It opens in another window and is clear to read (for me anyway). :)

I don't know if it was made locally, just that it has an Australian part number which is usually a good clue.

Thanks...Yep, Smiths proprietary item with a BMC number allocated (which is common thing to do)...

Just an afterthought re my km/h speedo (regardless of it's origin!) that may be of use to some of you.
At the top of the dial is an unused green light. I had an idea. What I did was to wire it up to my electric fuel pump so I know when my secret cut off switch is on. i.e no light, pump isolated, green light on, pump on, ready to roll! I have a few times driven off only to splutter a few hundred metres down the road. Quick check, no green light, idiot! Hope this is of help...

Cheers

Michael
