Thanks guys. Whether I use a string line or just measure it, is the theory right that I posted?
Is the measurement for example 1/16" narrower over all or say 1/16" in from the string line? There's a few ways that measurement could be applied.

You need to get the toe in as close to 1/32” (0.8mm) each rear wheel.
I also tried the rear wheels straight and found it ok but I went to toe out it felt very skittish.
I take the measurements against the sidewall at the same height as the manual says to do the front wheels but on the outside.
http://www.ausmini.com/manuals/Mini%20W ... eering.pdf"Measurements must be made on a 14.5" diameter (368.3mm) on the sidewall of the tyre at a distance of 9.4" (239mm) above the ground."
Here is a photo showing my very technical setup. I use a brick at each corner and 2 pipes that I roll up to put tension on the string. If you zoom in you will see 2 chalk marks on the sidewall. They are 9.4" off the ground and 14.5" diameter. All you need now is a ruler or a vernier calliper depth gauge to measure the distance from the string to the sidewall.
