And I wont take offence either, as I'm definitely not a 'economic rationalist bean counter'... but was just explaining what IS in place and why it doesn't help us.

Have a great day :-)

Onya Timmy...so glad to hear you aren't one of those ERBC's

No offence meant, just a little passionate about Gummint Depts drip feeding money to their their IT Depts, usually, because management fears what they don't know!!!

We can spend $23Bn on Gornski, but can't get the most basic of services right elsewhere.

Thanks, hope to have a great day...you too! :D

I may be facing a similar situation. 1967 Mini that's been off the road and unregistered for the last 35 years. I was its second owner, having bought it in 1969. It still has the original number plates on the car, but not much else to identify it - no stamped metal plate, engine number machined off years ago, no cowling panel, no windscreen rego sticker left.

I went into the local SA Services [Ezyreg] office to ask if there was any record of the plates and my ownership. Sorry can't trace anything that far back, all the records are computerised now, we don't hold any record of those plate numbers. They suggested I might try to find the last registration renewal notice I received for it 35 years ago as this would provide the evidence of my ownership. Yeah sure, as if anyone would have kept it!

This situation sounds ridiculous.
1970 manufacture was prior to ADRs', so technically the car doesn't need a compliance plate.
Even if it was never registered in Australia before, it should be able to be registered right now.
I say this because the registration process on my 1974 BMW which was imported from America & never Australian registered, was the simplest task, done down at Lonsdale inspection station.
The vehicle does have an ID plate, but certainly no compliance plate, but because it is pre ADR, it was approved in a few minutes.
It would appear that there are different inspector mind sets.
Regarding tracing the car, they will have no records of anything prior to 1974, so perhaps yours was unregistered then?

States are getting worse over time. Vehicle registration is obviously a huge cash cow. Cost in the ACT just obscene.
Power bills gone crazy; I think twice now using my MIG welder etc.
And Daniel Andrews has made "mooning" a crime.
Totally un-Australian!

However, SA has just made it easier to get historic registration on classics built pre 1987 - $90 for 90 days of driving a year. Until now you could only get this concession provided the classic was bog standard without any upgrades or modifications whatsoever.

As of 1 July 2017 you are allowed to have modifications that enhance the safety, appearance and functionality of the vehicle - eg better brakes, seats, lights. Some engine mods are also permitted. Still not supposed to drop a V8 in a Mini and expect to benefit from the scheme of course. Ministry of Transports thinking it will generate more business for the motor trade and put many more classics on the road of instead of being stored in sheds for most of the year.

Actually you can do whatever mods you like Slide, as long as it is approved and legal. The only requirements are that it is 30yo or older, roadworthy and legal, and that you are a financial member of the club. The club does not have to sight the car, though many might still want to before signing it off. Roadworthiness/legality of the vehicle to be used on the road is the owners responsibility, just the same as it is for full rego.
So if you drop a V8 in a mini and get it all passed by DPTI it can go on the club rego 90 day scheme.

Tim.
