So I've started assembling bits on my engine. All the new rod bearings all have cracks here where the tang is. Is this normal or are these bin fodder?

I'd trash them. I hate county stuff it's seems I always have problems with there stuff. Find some different manufacturer.

They came in a "King Bearings" box so I was surprised they were County inside..

King bearings own county. Buy the King HD ones.
Or ACL HD which are available again.

The ones I bought had HD at the end of the part number, (8G2198HD 030) I though they were they good ones..

Well, they are better than the ones I got by an ordering mistake on my part, std County aluminium tin ones in a King box.
