I started to overhaul the instruments tonight and have a couple of questions. I have a GT dash into which I want to put a late metric speedo. In the original GT dash the warning lights are

High Beam in speedo at the bottom
Three red warning lights in the fuel/temp cluster

In the original van speedo the warning lights are

High Beam at the top centre of the fuel/temp cluster
Two red warning lights at the lower part of the temp/fuel cluster

So my question is what is the extra warning light that he GT dash has at the top of the temp/fuel cluster? While I am here how do I wind the speedo back to zero? I realise that there are pawls in the odometer but can't figure out how to release them. It must be easy as used car dealers can do it and they aren't the brightest people around.

There is a spare light in one of the guages that never got used. As for winding the clock back..you can't...you can wind it forward though.. ;)

You know its not legal to wind the speedo back.. I did it in my GT when I rebuilt it... they ask the question when I went for rego... I just played dumb....

There are a few ways you can do it. I think most people put one end of the speedo cable in a drill.. and just run it till it is where you want it..

The other is just spin the numbers with your fingers but I think you need to push the little metal plates between the numbers over..

my 1c worth

I know how to wind them back, but shall refrain from advising on a public forum. 8)

No one should ever get done for it unless being caught red handed..how easy is it to say it went from 99.9999 -> 00.0000

to do 999 999 kms (modern speedo) in a car is HUGE....but to do 99 999 kms (ye olde speedo) is not so huge. So for a 70's car, Josh, that is believable.....but for a modern car...er....um....not so.

Now I just got my car regoed 6 weeks ago.. I got a bit of paper now saying in 2005 the my car had 26KM on the clock..

ANYONE WANT TO BUY A 1971 CLUBMAN GT with 26Km on the clock..

This is in "mini chat", no 999.999k speedo's here :P take that to general desicussion haha

People aren't going to believe a car has 26km's on it, and if they are genuine, by god you'd be able to tell..

There are plenty of mini's out there with swapped, replaced speedo's..

Actually..how does one know what stage of the 99.999k cycle their car is at? 1, 2, 3XX.XXXX?

technically speaking...is swapping a (mini  ) speedo legal?

Sure when your (mini  ) speedo stops working it's the easiest way to fix the prob, but....is this legal?!?!?

To be honest i don't really care about the legality of it all, but find out for me..

When I look at a mini i couldn't really care less how many k's are on the clock..What are you doing with JAM's speedo?

I dunno, I certainly don't agree with winding back speedo's on modern car's, but IMO the one on the mini is just about useless by this age..
