CPOCSM... I'd say your valve springs were getting coil bound with the extra lift. I use the C-AEA526 ones, they have 1 less coil so this doesn't happen.
If you MUST go back to stock rockers to run with a cam, I'd get some early pressed steel ones, not that sintered crap.... with any more than stock lift they hammer the top of the valves as their pads are too short.

Thanks to Kevin and GrahamRussell for a very interesting day.

Save us some bucks cause we thinking of getting some 1.5 rockers but from what Graham said not much point unless you are reving over 6500rpm.

Also I have to adjust the tappets ever month. I have done 8000km in the mini matic without adjusting the tappets and have burnt out the exhaust valuve one number three cylinder.

Thanks for a great day, looking forward to the next one where Graham will start with a simple single carby and cast headers and work his way throw various carb and exhaust combinations.

With all this new knowledge the 21.8hp at the wheels from the 998 matic may well go to 23.6HP so all those WRX's will have the watch out for the matic.

Sounds like your rockers or shaft have had it. My son's Clubbie had sintered ones, #4 exhaust needed adjustment weekly..
Sintered ones are not bushed, so when they start to wear the shaft..
So I flung them away and put the early type on, with a new shaft.

looks like you all had a great day and good fun.
If anyone has a cd of the photos they took ill gladly pay the postage to get it o me in new zealand.
It good to see a south african 1275 motor in the mix of things as i have a 1360 south african motor here and its a very strong motor.
i got to see another weslake 8 port head this weekend and that car was unbelievably quick.
I was out testing graham russels 308 cam in my car and totally awsome and kicks butt is about the best works to discribe it as the rest of the time i was speachless, for a mini person to build a motor that can mix it up with some of the quickest 1380's in the race series im smiling from ear to ear.
thankyou graham even tho i wasnt there, i will catch up with you later as i know that you will get this message.

Definately a BINI badge. The wings are shorter than the Rover badge.
