I have seen many key codes stamped on the square key(way) but less on the escutcheon.

Sorry to stray from the original question, but does anyone have a sample photo of where the key code is stamped on the key way?

We're working on some handles at the moment and can't locate any codes (and it appears that you need to use the key to separate the handle and escutcheon?).

Thanks,
Evan

Although this photo is of the boot, the key code for the door keyway was stamped in exactly the same location - on the side of the square section of the key(way).

Thank you, great photo.

Had a look at our door handles but not there unfortunately. Will have to keep sourcing spare keys to keep trying.

Out of interest I had a look at some spare boot handles and found only one out of about a dozen had the number - can't have been a very common practice!

Thanks,
Evan

The other location of course is on the front face of where the key inserts, as this relates to the tumbler, but I think this may have even been an earlier 50's BMC practice...
