Would it not be possible to Dremel or mill the other side of the handle to expose the end of the pin, then drift it back out?
On assembly some Araldite and a spot of chrome paint, you wouldn't notice it.
Just thinking outside the square here...

That will be my last resort, I have purchased some Dremel bits and will try to shave the pin down, hopefully it is so worn that I will be able to wiggle it off.

I wouldn't fancy trying to clamp it in a mill to be honest!

My handle has a hole where the point would go through...

I'm getting ready to do this same thing as my driver's doors 1/4 window latch isn't attached. (it patiently awaits in my door pocket!) Thanks very much to Winabbey, Louis, et al. for this great thread!

I have done very little to help except ask many questions, but as above I too am very grateful for all the help thus far.

I am not sure of the value in these (I may have already posted somewhere), however attached are some images of the 1100 setup. I can confirm there is a small drift pin which goes through the whole of the handle assembly on the 1100, but not on my Australian doors.

I gather the Australian handles are NLA (and 1100 parts are hard to source in Australia), however it is nice to know there are options.
