Lost the handbrake today and when I checked it out, this is what I found. Can’t quite work out what’s what with it. Manuals are useless, and can’t even find this setup anywhere on the web. Hope someone can shed some light.


The arm with the bolt through it looks as though it needs to catch on the bracket, but it’s no where near it.

The manual looks like this. From memory the bracket on the body should have a hole in it, so maybe yours has torn out at some stage?

Thanks Tim, I fear you may be right. Maybe the bracket “hook” shouldn’t be that at all and has just rounded off. I can’t find any broken bits though, so maybe broke off years ago. Can’t believe it’s actually worked at all.

John, looks to me like the hole has been torn and folded back. In this case there are probably no parts to be found, they are all still there just not where they should be. Best fix is to weld the torn bit but this will be difficult without risking burnt paint etc. Maybe a piece bolted to the bracket will be a better solution. At shed tomorrow if you want to duck down for some opinions. JK.

That is not uncommon. Happened to me - one tore out as yours has and the other had fatigue cracks. The front screw has the more leverage on it.
If you weld it, use a large mudguard washer to replace the missing part of the bracket to help spread the load.
