OK so I've had 2x MiniMatics, a 69 and a 70. :lol:

Both have bodies with YA2S5 prefix....??
WTF?
And NO, none of the boards with this Mini body info seem to list it. :wink:

My guess (and it is a guess because I don't have anything from BMC to prove it) is the 5 would mean "matic"

Example....
Morris 1100 (because I have the book!)

YMGS1 = Morris 1100 Deluxe (they were all deluxes)
YMGS2 = Morris 1100 "S" (1275cc)
YMGS3 = Morris 1100 Automatic
YMGS4 = Morris 1100 Standard (the poverty pack, only a handfull built)
YMGS5 = Morris 1100 "S" Automatic
See how the last number changes the model

So with the first series of mini
YMA2S...
1 = 850
2 = Deluxe
3 = Mini Minor (later 850?)
4 = Auto

Then the second series
YG2S...
1 = K
2 = ?
3 = ?
4 = Cooper S (mk 2)
5 = Matic (?)
6 = Mini 1100 (poverty clubman?)
7 = Mini Clubman
8 = Clubman GT

I hope this is right!

M1100,
Yep I agree that `5' is `matic, but what about the `YA'? No, there is no `M' in there, on the VIN plate or the rad shroud.... :?

I think the second digit (the M for morris) was deleted after Leyland took over in 1968.

So the YA2S5 would be...
Y = Australian
A = 800cc to 999cc (998cc)
2S = 2 door Saloon (Mini)
5 = Matic

Hope this makes sense!

Yep, that would explain it.. and it fits with the Mini K's` YG' prefix (no M either!) 8)

Deluxe 1.5 that's interesting... she is a pretty early example of a Mini K being 8/69 right?

Who knows. The only real way to tell is to trace the history right back to the first owner of the car.

Anyone know of anyone racing a Mini K with Shell stickers on both rear panels (near the fuel tank) and possible having a round "68" bonnet number? :wink:

No it didn't come from there... it was taken there to be "restored". It came from a private sale to the previous owner, then a private sale again to me
