Good advice, just drive ultra defensive like bike riders do and anticipate stupidity. I ride with my mates in their jap imports and I am completely scared out of my wits! they are big risk takers and you just can't do that in a mini!

Besides, I'd be devistated if my little mini was to get hurt in an accident!

me mams always tellin me "those truckies, theyre angry people. no sleep, a shitty station meal and no girls make them angry. and they have to concentrate to drive. dont muck with them"

and thats the impression that seems to work. all truckies are doing their job on tight time.
to be mindful of huge trucks is the way to go. dont travel alongside them, if theyre signalling, theyre gonna turn into your lane. if you cant go faster, then stay behind.
i find that if a truck is behind me and im going slow, i let the truck overtake me. i dont find it safe to move lanes and let them past coz i cant see past them into other lanes. is this right?

but when makka gets off his truck he turns into the perfect gentleman who sleeps and eats and sleeps some more.

Yeah makka i know exactly what it feels like when a car slams on their brakes infront of you. My step dad is a furniture removalist and ive offsided for him in the past. Quite a few times cars have slammed on brakes infront of the truck (20 GVM) while the truck has been full of thousands worth of furniture. You also get those pr*cks that overtake you because your in a truck and then slow down, you overtake them, they overtake you again and slow down under the speed limit.
Trucks are damn heavy and dont usually stop quick! also remember the driver cant see you unless you can see him in the mirrors.

Yeah sounds all too familiar! I wish there were more cops around for those type of morons, cause the amount off crap that idots get away with is just a joke!

The one and only time I got booked for speeding was coming in from Newcastle after having driven all the way to Cairns and back. Me and a ute were stuck behind a truck, I was directly behind and the Ute was behind me. We followed the truck for a good 20kms without an overtaking lane in sight.

The overtaking lane comes up bam! the ute is out beside me and gunning her full throttle in the overtaking lane, big V8 sound. I i then pull out and realise the overtaking lane is about to end and I step on her (big v6 sound  ) and to make it out in front of the truck I did 132km/h (that's what it said on the ticket) but the ute was at least 20 car lengths head of me by then and way up the road and still going, I reckon he was 150+).

Subsequently I get pulled over by a fat coppa an fined. I tried to kick up a fuss about the ute but he shrugged his shoulders as if to say "least i got one of you's" :? at least he only fined me and I didn't lose any points! I think he was kind as the ute was plainly well over 132ks!

I was on my P's then too!

Ya wanna be scared by trucks??? Try driving to Mt Isa. Bitumen is lucky to be one lane wide. If there's a truck coming the other way, then you get off the road, COMPLETELY. Or if ya come up behind one of them, it really is scary when they have six trailers, and they're swinging all over the place.

Give the guys a break.
You cant really expect any of em to pull up 100 tonne of truck and load just for some poor prune in a car.

I drove out to Longreach (cent. Qld) last year, sheez.. overtaking some of those road trains at 120kmh with a cross wind is a flippin scary thing.. Cos they have like, 3 sections and each sways and moves independently... Still, good practice.. Between Longreach and emerald i wouldve encountered at least 10-20 of them.

just on the speed of trucks - on the autobahns in Germany the trucks keep up - which means between 150-200 usually. Some of the newer Merc Benz Actros and the like seem to handle it with ease... most of the trucks there arent semi, they're fixed back container type things generally with another trailer behind.. makka does that make a big difference in terms of top speed?

I dont ever recall seeing any semis in germany france italy or switzerland. They usually are a rigid truck followed by a trailer of a similar size. In Italy they are speed limited im pretty sure.... causes a lot of traffic probs because you get a truck that can go 2 km/h faster that the one infront overtaking it. so you get two of the 3 lanes at 110 and only the outside lane at the speed limit of 130... a real headache at times. Germany im not sure but those trucks would go faster as they are smaller and have better power to weight ratio (thats if the gearing is suited).
