My car has started hissing at me.. It's a sound akin to blowing through a straw.. It gets louder with more power... Anyway, popped the hood and had a listen, it's even there at idle, and still got louder with revs and seemed to be coming from somewhere around the carb, but i couldnt feel any air escaping anywhere.. Im really bad at this kinda diagnostic stuff so hoping someone can help... No loss of performance either so im a bit befuddled on this one!

Exhaust or intake manifold leak? If so you won't feel leaking of anything...

Vacuum leak. you can hear the air being sucked in. Get a bottle of water and pour it around where the sound is and you will hear the difference. Then pull that bit off and replace the gasket or fix the pipe. Has the vac pipe from the distributor fallen off or broken?

glad to hear. caster oil would make a huge mess, water kills the motor, engine start make the revs go up many differetn ways to check but all have the same result.
