Thanks Doogie.

Yep, we have 2 GT's Both in need of a re-build. Now with our new shed completed the 004 GT (which is the oldest surviving GT in Australia) will be off to the panel beaters for some work. The car is completely stripped now so it looks like this -

This GT will be built up to be a works rally GT. The previous owner told us that it was once a BMC/BL rally car driven by Evan Green. The car does have some distinguishing features which may suggest it was a rally or maybe a rally-cross GT. I have done extensive research and some contacts who worked in the BMC comp dept tell me there was a handful of factory GT rally cars and being such an early production model it could be possible. I'm yet to get confirmation on engine/body numbers to cross reference. I've seen pictures of the works GT's so mine may or may not be. The very early GT's came equiped with factory fitted Mk II Cooper S engines and gearboxes.

Regardless of wether the car was or was not a works car it will still be built up as one looking like this but obviously a Clubman-

Our other GT is the same colour as this one underneath the matt red paintjob the previous owner gave it. It's way down the list for resto at this stage.

A friend and I bought a bent one for $800 10 years ago, we reshelled it into a 76 Clubbie (hydro, brakes and all) then swapped all that into my 70 `MiniMatic".. (now a 1360).

Somewhere out there now is a poor old blue 76 Clubbie, with a 998 auto in it... and 7" Cooper discs!

Could be.

I'm going off our Club historian who told me that 501 & 502 were written off. Number 503 still has a ? as to it's where abouts. So ours may or may not be the oldest. I'd love to hear from the guy who has 502.

BTW - the number on our GT stamped on the fire wall is 503 but the number on the compliance plate is 504.

Julie.................who's GT's have VIN's of 504 & 604. Now to find 704

I had a 73 GT, first it rolled into a country ditch and flattened it.
Rebuilt it into another shell, i t burnt to the ground.
It is jinxed, i vowed never to rebuild it again.
I still have the plates, rego and radiator panel.... anybody?

OH no!!! the search isn't working.
I sold (Dads) the last GT to a fella here in Brisbane. Sure he is making all sorts of wild claims about it's history. All pull.

anyway

No such thing as a 1973 GT. Sold in 73 but made in 72.

Thanks for the info and pics Kyoda. Do you by any chance have any pics of an original aussie GT interior - seats, dash and door trims?? Or maybe you can refer me to somewhere I can view on the web .... maybe???

Any help is appreciated.

So they did actually stop making them in 72 then?

On this site - http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~gavin.agnew/table.html - it makes reference to a number of "GT's" with a build date of Jan 73. Is this correct or not?

Very interested in this topic and would be rapt to hear from anyone on this site about it. TK - you seem to be fairly confident in your knowledge of GT's. Please help me clear this up.

Cheers :)

Hello there fellow GT owners!
I have just bought back my concours winning 71 Clubman GT last week. :D I sold it 10 years ago with 86,000 miles on it. Last week when I found it in Vic Mini Mag it still had only 102,000 miles on the odometer! I was very happy to find that it had been looked after by 2 other Mini fans over this 10 years and was still virtually in show room condition. It is a very early GT with full Cooper S specs. It is Cadiz orange with black stripes. It still has an original interior in near new condition. The original carpet is even in great nick still but I am going to put in a new front carpet so as to keep the original from deterioration. I have just bought some Miniator 10inch alloys to keep the original wheels in great condition. The original steering wheel and gearknob are also still with the car. I have been searching for this little beauty for almost 8 years and deeply regretted selling it. I will never sell it again! If anyone needs photos for a restoration let me know. We need to get as many GT's back on the road as possible and publicise these wonderful little cars. Having a Cooper S as well, the GT is a much more refined car! The rarity of these cars is also a great bonus over the Cooper S. As you can tell I'm very happy to have found this car again!
