Some people may be interesed in what CFM flows we are looking at with mini motors. I got a bit interested in this so I did a bit of investigation. .

I couldn't find a lot of flow figures on Webers, but these give us some idea

45DCOE with 32mm chokes will flow 420 CFM in total.
45DCOE with 36mm chokes will flow 440 CFM in total

An SU will flow

HS4......142 CFM
HS6......210
HIF6......240

So double the flow for twin SU's. You can see that on these figures a single HS6 should flow enough for any mini on the road.

Rough figures for different size motors follow. (These are certainly not accurate but are in the ball park}. So much depends on the cam in caculations like this. We have to ignore the head mods and work on a theoretical figure using cubic capacity. All numbers are at 6500rpm and expressed in Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM)

850.........96
998.........114
1098.......126
1275.......146
1293.......148
1310.......150
1330.......152
1360.......156
1425.......163

Just some more useless info. I believe a lot of these figures are in D. Vizard's books and would certainly be more accurate.

Bear in mind that a Weber on a Mini only sucks on one throat at a time so you can halve your figures...
GR's DCOE manifold flows 240, a Redline 3005 flows 137, mine did 187 before it's last surgery... :P
These figures at 25"WG.

Can you explain further Kev. Even if it does suck on one throat at a time one throat is supplying half the motor and each throat is capable of flowing over 100 CFM when the motor will not use more than that at 36mm chokes.

I must be a rebel...but what would a HIF44 and a Dellorto 48 with 36's be
I'd be really interested.
Specialy the HIF44 as it goes up a against 40 & 45 Dellorto's

and then add on a GR Dr special...ow these engine have to real be strong to suck

Air flow thru the carbs is intermittent. Firing order 1-3-4-2; extrapolated is 3-4 then 2-1. What I'm pointing out is whilst 3 & 4 are sucking on one choke, the other choke is doing SFA. So carb `utilization factor' is only 50%.
Each cylinder `sees' only a single 36mm choke. Apart from the extra bends it would work pretty much the same with a single Weber barrel onto a good SU manifold. Same airflow, but utilization factor 100%.
kapich?

Nope. Now im reeeely confyoosed. :? WTF?

So you're saying i have two 650cc motors, in effect. I get that bit.
But how does the 'two' motors use only one choke of my weber at a time?

HEEEELP!

1-3-4-2. (ie 3-4-2-1) #3 sucks on one barrel then #4 on the same one. Whilst this is happening there's NO airflow through the other barrel into #1 & #2. Likewise when #2 sucks then #1 on the other barrel there's no flow thru the 3-4 barrel. This alternating overlapping flow is what gives a Weber it's lovely music on an A series, unlike a single SU which sounds like a drainpipe.

Yes, but what figure do you want to halve?
