Is insttalling a short shifter any good? I heard it gets rid of the pull to reverse but you might accidentally get into reverse if your going to 4th gear, not good for freeways.

I don't think you'd get from third to reverse. Apart from having to lift it, divert direction, it also won't destroy the gearbox anyway.
The effort required to change gear is also increased.

Are you talking about the standard shifter or the short shifter?

I didn't think you could 'accidentally' get into reverse while driving with a short shifter but so I've been told you can. Are these any good anyway?

Could be because I'm used to 5 gears & sometimes accidentally get into 5th opps.

The short shifter makes it harder to change gears because you have less leverage in it.
You have the same chance for getting into reverse with a short as you do with a long: not much when moving.
I don't think there's a definite "they are good" or "they are bad", it's just personal preference.
