I was just looking at getting some people's thoughts :wink: , I don't know if it has been discussed before :D :D .

1. Opinion on them
2. What circuits do u place them on, Fuel Pump ?, Battery ?? any where else ???
3.Any benifet from having them??

I dont know much about kill switches.. But I find taking the rotor out of the distributor and putting the cap back on works well :)..

Then when I am ready to go again I just put it back in..

Best & cheapest IMO is a $9 battery isolator in the boot. Got another today from Big W. :D
Otherwise, good ones are on the elec fuel pump, and the ignition circuit. Hide 'em good.... :wink:

<edit> Fuel pump one is effective `coz they can start it normally, but it'll get about a block and stop. Rather than find out why, the villains will probably leg it... :lol:

and a good alarm with a huge massive screaching siren so loud it deafens ... :D
Kill switches are good but, like Kaz's K it has a kill switch but the windows you could easily wind down from the outside , so it wasnt very theftproof, i agree with Dr Mini with the battery isolator.
i remember installing kaz's alarm in the Charade the wires were all black yet they still labelled all of them black...
I wonder if there is such a thing as a colour blind electician???

A simple one is to have a small switch hidden under the dash that breaks the connection to the earth side of the coil. You can turn it over all you like and it will never spark.

But that adds some unreliability to the car.

I like the ones that short circuit the points better. Might give the coil a hard time, but cheaper than replacing a whole car :D

And better than breaking down on the freeway because one of the wires has come off your kill switch.

Kill switch on the fuel pump is very effective. It even gets the owner some times :)

With some imagination and the right switch you can have a very well disguised anti theft device.

My boyfriend installed 2 on my mini, not sure how he did them but can ask. We got the switches from Tandy and he did it in half an hour so must be simple.
Make sure you try to put the switches in hidden spots, just to make sure it's harder for the thief.

I only found out the other day that my mini had a ball valve in the fuel line under the dash. Not quite a kill switch, but they could only get the thing started, drive a bit and then it stops.....but the pump (elec) would still tick along....
Other ways... but like people say removes your reliablilty.
Use a reed switch hidden under some fabric somewhere, with a latching circuit attached. You need to activate the reed switch before you can energise the ignition.
probably cost 7-8 bucks

I've only just installed a 'kill everything switch' inline to the positive from the battery, only one other wire that has power and that is to the switch, I still forget it's there sometimes and can't start.

I installed an elec fuel pump on a switch on my deluxe

was simple. but lost count how many times I forgot to turn it on and came to a complete stop 100m down the road

best three are the battery cut off which im getting, if they find that then i already have a fuel pump cut off switch which is mounted where no one knows, then i was thinking about one mounted on the ignition wire where it cannot be seen but can still be accessed, i tested how long mine ran with the switch for the fuel pump off, only got to the top of the driveway then stopped so thats a good one.

A kill switch in the boot saved my Cooper S from being stolen one night in 1981. Thieves couldn't start it so they decided to tow it. A passing cop car noticed it had no lights and chased them. Tow rope broke and it slammed into the gutter but at least I got it back. Always had a two kill switches since - one on the battery, the other on the fuel pump.
