hey guys,

i removed the subframe from the van this morn,

the plan is to strip down the fram and give it a fresh coat of paint,

when reinstalling, what would be better?

fitting and building the motor on the frame and installing it pretty much complete???

or fitting the frame then throwing the motor through the bonnet???

its easier to whack the whole lot in as you can get to the engine mount bolts etc easier when the engine is out, having said that it makes brake lines a pain so make sure you put the one that goes down to the front on before you fit the subframe and engine in or all you will have is fun and games

lines wont b a problem as i'll be making all new ones an will be fitted to frame, just have to bolt up master cylinder linr to it, (still may be a pain in the arse though!!!

Fitting whilst out - easier to get at engine mounts. And you can do it without an engine hoist.

ive got a hoist, then i figure i can just lift the ngine and frame in all together with the hoist,

($200 foldable hoist....and used it 3 times in 6 months already, )

if its all out allready, and disconnected brake lines etc I would go assemble then put in .. like meeni said them engine mount bolts are an expleative genitalia.,

engine mounts arent a worry anymore......they are a thing of the past now.....CAPTIVE NUTS...(engine mount with nut welded on bak $30 a pair on ebay!!!!).....5minutes.....not 45minutes trying to get the one close to the firewall g/box end,

I've done it both ways. But I reckon it's easier to fit the subframe in, then drop the motor AND radiator in from the top. But leave alternator & carb off.

BTW if you do put motor & subframe in together, don't try to lift it up into the body. Drop the body over it..

re the U-beaut captive nut mounts.. these are aftermarket and usually too thick, so they sit motor higher & it's then hard to align with subframe holes ..
so I just tack weld nuts into genuine mounts....
